Morris Travellers

Woodies, in Chichester, are skilled craftsmen specialising in Ash Frames for Morris Traveller's.

They recently had a Glenfinan 4 Post installed to help them in restoring these iconic cars.

Steve at Woodies kindly sent us these pictures to show the lift in action.

If you would like more information about the amazing job Woodies do, or have a car with a wooden frame that needs updating, please visit them at http://www.morriswoodwork.co.uk/.

How Low Can You Go?

A customer booked his car for a demo, turned up and it had a low, extended, front spoiler and he couldn't even drive up the slight ramp into the Strongman Tools Showroom

He had driven up for a demo, so we gave him one, all a bit improvised at the last minute but, well the lifts do work in the yard, and we had the generator available so no health and safety regs regarding trailing leads were infringed!

The Clifton Lift was taken into the sunshine and set up with some lead in tiles to enable this car to drive over. The problem wasn't so much the height of the aftermarket nose, more the length it extended beyond the front wheels.....anyway we improvised a ramp....

Got the car safely in position, placed the blocks....

Raised the car......

Proved there is really unobstructed access down the centre...don't know why that would be a benefit with this particular car as it has a flush undertray fitted down the length and all the important bits are easily accessible hanging over the rear!!!

Honour satisfied, car raised.....

Will the Law be an Ass?

Your vehicle must meet the Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (as amended) if you use it on the road.

Type approval if using new parts

If your vehicle includes new components, it won’t get an age-related registration number. You’ll need to gettype approval.

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs is similarly unimpressed by the proposed EU legislation. "We reject the suggestion that roadworthiness testing should relate to a vehicle’s ‘technical characteristics’, whatever the age of the vehicle," said a spokesperson.
"Modifications, alterations and improvements are all part of the history of the motor vehicles and the older the vehicle, the more likely it has been altered at some stage."

Mugen

Mugen had a project to build 20 very special Honda Civic Type R's. "MUGEN has used its expertise to develop the Civic Type R MUGEN especially for UK roads"

Like so many good things in life it's a wholly British project! The donor cars are made in Swindon and then Mugen in Northampton use alchemy to cast their spell and deliver a special car. See

They needed a solution to enable them to easily build the cars in their Northampton HQ, problem is that the building can't accommodate a 4 post and they cannot drill or let into the floor to install a 2 post, full height scissor or flush mid rise lift!

They visited the Strongman Tools Showroom for a fitting!

The Clifton was ideal for the job but these new more than sporty Civic's are so low that without up-ramp extensions, not possible due to space constraints, getting the donor car on would be possible but removing it once it has trick suspension, wheels and body kit enhancements would be impossible! The solution, they use HyJack vehicle skates to slide the car onto the lift - sideways....

It all worked well in principle so they had one installed and now it all works out for real!

The engine looks special, and they reeled off enough tweaks and additions to make me dizzy. The new exhaust is a work of art, at both ends, and will you look at those brakes!

UPDATE.......AUTOSPORT SHOW

We were lucky enough to get the loan of one for The Strongman Tools Stand at the Autosport Show

it also meant I was forced to drive one!!!! Can't tell you how amazingly fast it was, the handling pin sharp but the truly stunning thing about this car is the STOPPING, I have never driven anything that stopped so quickly and with so much control.... down to these amazing brakes!!

NOT "Run of the Mill....."

As we go around the country, and the world, installing lifts and taking in the sights, we happen upon some wonderful cars, the pride and joys of our Customers, but we also happen upon the unusual on occasion, a few examples below......

Hasn't everyone got a Harrier in the Garden?
